We've proudly included Spirulina in our portfolio almost since the establishment of Vitalvibe. It is an amazing superfood, known for its richness in essential nutrients. Crunchy and "spicy" spirulina is a whole new level of what spirulina can taste like. Unlike traditional powdered forms, this unique variant adds a delightful crunch to your dishes, making it perfect for salads, savoury creations, or even as a standalone treat.

It warms the tongue and crunches between the teeth. You will fall in love with this healthy treat!

Get to know crunchy spirulina

Originally native to Lake Huacachina in Peru, our crunchy spirulina comes from the Spirulina Paracas strain, one of the earliest life forms (approximately 3.6 million years ago) that was used as a food source in the cultures of Mexico and Africa.

It is particularly interesting for its crispy form and its spicy taste, which is supplied directly on the farm. We offer it for two reasons - it is tastier than the powdered form and our co-owner, Honza Noah, fell for it on his first try.

Spirulina is used in salads, savoury dishes or on its own just for flavour.

What makes our crunchy spirulina special

  • The farm from which we import our spirulina offers it in a unique sun-dried form.
  • We are the only importer from this farm. You will not find any other crunchy spirulina in the Czech Republic.
  • Spirulina contains over 50% protein and a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients.

Beneficial substances in spirulina

high protein content: contributes to bone health and satiety

a wide range of vitamins and minerals naturally occur in it, such as iron

chlorophyll: a green colouring agent structurally similar to hemoglobin

beta-carotene: a precursor of vitamin A, a natural antioxidant

What does it help with

Spirulina helps people prone to anaemia as it promotes healthy blood formation due to its iron content. Iron is also essential for the normal transfer of oxygen in the body, thereby improving overall oxygenation.

The story of our crunchy spirulina

Life on the farm

The story of our spirulina begins on an organic farm in Auroville, located on the coast of South India. The specific sunny climate enables a unique way of producing high-quality spirulina using organic farming methods.

The spirulina is cultivated in shallow ponds about 15 cm below the surface, in water enriched with nutrients (minerals and salts) that create optimal living conditions for the algae. The culture in the ponds is stirred several times a day to stimulate the process of photosynthesis.

The spirulina, which is harvested from the water as biomass, undergoes purification and filtration processes. Then, it undergoes a pressing process before it takes the form of a paste which is grated into 'spaghetti'. These are dried in the sun, which takes just a few hours in the local coastal climate. If you want seaweed with a spicy flavour, masala and chilli must be mixed in before drying. Finally, the spirulina is cracked into pieces and wrapped.

Remarkable place of origin

Our spirulina comes from an interesting place with a spiritual tradition. Auroville is an experimental village whose primary mission is to promote human spiritual development and life in harmony. A range of ecological technologies and alternative practices are used here.

Even the spirulina grower is guided by ethical values. This farm with more than 20 years of tradition prides itself on operating in accordance with the principles of long-term sustainability and Fair Trade. It employs mainly women from socially disadvantaged local communities. It cares about friendly and safe working conditions for its employees and good wages.

Dobry den, pritel zkusti tuto korenenou spirulinu a mel bohuzel alergickou reakci.

S pozdravem, Sandra Vitalvibe
